When Larrose-Cut Off Middle School teacher Michelle Plaisance picked up a brochure  in Disney World’s Epcot Center 14 years ago, it was hard to imagine she  would have done what she has now. The teacher, along with her students, have raised about $475,000 over the past 14 years, according to Louisiana’s Daily Comet.

The brochure, of Give Kids the World, a foundation that provides free vacations for children with life-threatening illnesses, sparked Plaisance’s interest in the cause, according to the news source. She and her students formed the Micky Maniacs and have donated an amount that the charity said is on par with corporate sponsors.

According to Give Kids the World spokesman Colette Karahenbuhl in the Daily Comet, it takes $5,000 to send each child on a vacation, so almost 100 children have gotten to go just from Plaisance and her group of students.

Give Kids the World’s website said that it started to grant one small child, a girl named Amy, a wish to travel. Sadly, Amy passed away before travel plans could be made and that inspired Henri Landwirth to ensure that this would never happen to another sick child again.
